CAPTAIN INFORMATION

Captain CJCJ Piver
Grand Rapids, Michigan

It's been said that good things come in small packages! In Cody’s case it’s very true. Cody John Piver (CJ) was born 13 weeks premature, weighing just over 2 pounds and 13 inches long. A week later he was diagnosed with a massive brain injury. We were then told that if Cody survived that he would likely have Cerebral Palsy, and that his quality of life may not be good… and started talking about our “options”. But the only option for us was to keep fighting for Cody, and fight Cody did.

He spent almost 4 months in the NICU at Loyola University Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, in that time he had already undergone 5 surgeries. At 5 years old, Cody has an excellent quality of life. He is a fan of the White Sox, loves playing hide and seek with his big brother Peyton. He has many dreams and hopes, some of them include being a freight train conductor like his daddy, singing in a rock band, learning to play the guitar, and being a doctor. He likes to tell knock-knock jokes, and makes up songs to sing to anyone who will listen. His favorite song is “So What” by Pink, and he is a MAJOR fan of the movie Cars, Mater is his best friend.

Special note: Does personality build character or character build personality! Does it really matter? We are given one life to live, and live it Cody does… with the character & personality that is so uniquely his! Life IS as simple as that! So we think we have problems… life too hectic… things not quite working out the way we’d like… “So What?”. Do what Cody does: just grab it by the horns and enjoy the ride.
